>My generation faces a crisis of existential proportions: how can human societyproblems function and develop in the face of compounding political conflict, global environmental degradation, and seemingly intractable cultural difference? These interrelated issues reach to our core as human beings and frame our relationships with others in this world.

what's at stakeThrough my past academic and professional pursuits, I have gained an intellectual curiosity these issues, attempting to better understand the world and my place in it. Over the last several years, I have worked and studied in cross-cultural environments with the hope of understanding the complex processes of international communication. These experiences led me to my current focus: the use of new technologies and media in international communication and development.

New technologies, particularly the Internet, are rapidly changing our social accessing informationlandscape by dramatically decreasing the costs of access to information for a wide variety of people. These cost reductions are particularly impacting many in non-Western countries that have traditionally been at a disadvantage in terms of  information infrastructure. Accurate information is critical to sustainable development. If we are to tackle the complex questions facing human society, we must start with open communication between participants. We must also ensure access to sound information.

>I have loosely divided my interests into three subsets. A theoretical technologyapproach to technology is the crux of my academic pursuits. In particular, I have focused on anthropological studies of human-computer interaction, privacy/information security, and Internet/new media usage.

>Much of my professional career has centered on communication. Working with  communication the Peace Corps has helped me develop a sense for international communication strategies. My research on news media and policymaking serves as a supplement to my professional endeavors.

>For me, music brings many of these issues to life. It can highlight our intricate musicdifferences in taste, while simultaneously affirming our shared humanity - across cultures and personal affinities.
